German Deputy Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel has vowed support to authorities in Heidenau, after the anti-migrant riots left dozens injured. Meanwhile, Angela Merkel came under fire domestically for her perceived silence. 

At a military parade in Kyiv, President Petro Poroshenko accused Russia of sending military backup to pro-Moscow rebels. The Ukrainian President said that Russia wants to undermine Kyiv’s attempts to move towards Europe. 

‘Islamic State’ (IS) militants have blown up the temple of Baal Shamin in the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra. The head of antiquities at the Roman-era site was beheaded by Islamists just a week ago. 

The four men were invited to Paris’ Elysee Palace to receive the Legion of Honor after Friday’s thwarted attack on an Amsterdam to Paris train. An armed man moved through several packed carriages, threatening passengers.
